DJI Smart Controller

Post by Martin » Wed Mar 27, 2019 8:34 pm

Does Drone Harmony support the DJI Smart Controller?

Currently no.

A statement of DJI explains why:
Because of the Google GMS (google map service) certification limitation, the DJI Smart Controller cannot use the GMS service.

Most 3rd party applications for flight planning including Drone Harmony use google services. We certainly hope that DJI and google do find a way soon to get the built-in DJI controller products properly certified...

In addition, it also seems that DJI limits the control 3rd party applications have over hardware settings, including who has the right / permission to access the USB connection. Access to USB connection is critical in order to communicate with the drone.

We will continue to monitor the situation and once DJI properly support 3rd party applications we will happily provide Drone Harmony support for DJI smart controller as well.

Litchi seems to have added initial support for the DJI Smart Controller. I hope Drone Harmony can provide support soon and help push on DJI to continue to improve their SDK access to the controller.

Most 3rd party applications are using google play store & Google API (map) services to run properly. DJI does not manage yet (we do not know the reasons) to certify their hardware devices with Google properly. Thus google play store, google play services (google map API) on their Android hardware devices (Crystal Sky, Smart Controller, P4P RTK built-in controller, etc. are not working properly. As a result, we currently do not support the smart controller but continue to observe the development. The support of the smart controller is not to be expected any time soon.
More on this you can find in the DJI forum:

We are continuing to monitor the situation. Also we will look into supporting the new Phantom 4 RTK RC.
