GPS interference from the tower

Post by Jeannine » Thu May 31, 2018 10:06 am

When flying autonomously do you have to worry about GPS interference from the tower, or since the flight is programmed into the drone the magnetic/radio wave interference is of no concern?

When flying too close it can result in GPS signal loss or even RC <-> drone disconnect. Make sure you monitor both (GPS and RC signal strength).

what minimum distance do you recommand to stay far from to avoid interference from the tower? (with standard DJI GPS solution: no RTK)

The interference fields heavily depend on what antennas are mounted on the tower. We have been flying at 6 meters but also have been forced to fly further out. Some customers reported they had to fly more than 10 meters away because of very strong and huge antennas.

So there is no general rule to this, but I would start by flying far out and reducing the orbit radi as long as you keep having a good signal.
